Kaya ngayon I try not to look at them differently.
♦ Ateneo-La Salle ulit on Sunday. It would be great if we win, pero baka naman sobrang ma-pressure yung team dahil sa level ng support na ibibigay ng school? Hindi yan, maybe that guy who writes for the newspaper is right, La Salle may be on its peak. After two seasons, parang gusto ko ulit manood ng game. Wala namang problema sa ticket, walang wala. (hahaha! Bakit kaya?!) Pag sinipag ako manonood ako sa Araneta.Ü

DEFENDING DAYS by Allan Roi Roño
Recently, Days With The Lord has once again come under attack by certain people who; although expressing concern, only have conjecture and hearsay as basis. This has happened many a time, through the internet, through casual conversation, and through sheer rumor. I often find myself on the defensive stance knowing full well that there is really nothing to defend. The only way to truly defend Days is to reveal it. Too bad I can't. Anything behind the so- called "dark side of Days" must remain because that is the challenge of Days, as was the challenge of Christ to Simon, Andrew, James, and John on that fateful day. The challenge: Come and see. None of the disciples knew what lay ahead but they spent the rest of their days with the Lord anyway.
Days is a group of people who have come together for the common purpose of bringing themselves and others closer to Christ, to re-discover Kuya Jess as we like to say. Days is not a frat nor a sorority, nor a cult as some people may think. Some of us even hesitate to call it a religious organization. Originally it was created as a response to a clamor, a pang so to speak for "something more significant." And those young boys on a 1966 November weekend more than thirty years ago came together to search for this significance… and found just that.
The Dazers are just ordinary people who have decided to take up the challenge of loving as Christ loved us. That's nothing new, just something which a lot of us have challenged ourselves with whether in the past or present. Here is where I wonder why people say, "Dazer ka di ba," or "Dazer ka pa naman." It's really no different from saying, "Kaka-retreat mo pa lang di ba?", or what about "You're a Catholic aren't you?" or Christian, or Born Again, or Buddhist, or Franciscan, or Jesuit, or Dominican, or Benedictine for that matter, religion teacher, or priest, or nun, preacher and what not. We're all in it for the same thing; to seek Christ. A Theology teacher of mine back in college put it so nicely, and I borrow his words: A Dazer is someone who realizes that he or she is a sinner and yet a companion of Christ. They are still ordinary human beings. They have not been given special powers of kindness and patience. They are people who still make mistakes, and falter. They can still get angry, get hurt and cry. Yes they may be noisy and even brash at times even in prayer and work. But it doesn't mean that God listens to them less. They are certainly not ineffective in bringing people closer to Him. So they may seem irreverent by calling the Son of God, Kuya Jess, or just Jess. So what? I ask many of you, how do you call Jesus Christ… Jesus, right?! Tinagalog lang namin. All they really have is a consciousness of that challenge that they took on that significant Days night. It doesn't make them any different from anybody else.
The truth behind the so-called dark side of Days is that Days With The Lord persists to this day from more than thirty-three years ago; despite this so-called dark side. Truth is Days has spread all over the country, into many schools, parishes and other communities. It has even spanned the seas crossing over to the U.S. Truth is, many of them have made a difference in the lives of other and more importantly in their own. Truth is people still join Days despite what they have heard. It is still an experience that one will never forget, a decision one will never regret.
Now to the Dazers, you don't get away scot-free. Think. Why do people say such things, even nasty things about Days and Dazers alike? Could it be that they see something wrong? Could something be amiss? Can they see that commitment you made? Are you living out that commitment? Or could they be possible be seeing nothing more than a power-tripping-pseudo-sorority girl out for revenge? Being a Dazer also means making changes. Remember, we are the ones who had Days, not them. You are the ones who have made changes in yourselves, so you are the ones who must adjust. The have to see the good that Days has done to you. You must enjoin people not by signing them up unknowingly or by forcing them. They must want to join on their own volition because they see that something good has happened to you and that they want to try and take a similar step. And you must be patient with them and more importantly yourselves. Quality change takes time, and it takes a lot of time to change the essence of a person.
To those who still do not understand, Days is not a miracle cure. It is not a quick 180 degree turn about for the participant. Rather, it's a slow pivot. Unfortunately we also cannot offer any warranties that you can return the Dazer if he or she falters; or if after a few days they revert back to their old ways. We can only guarantee that a seed has been planted in their hearts, a good seed, a goal, a direction towards Christ. The participant comes out of Days with a brave, loyal, and loving heart. But please keep in mind that even to the holiest of men and women, this is a most formidable challenge.
Dazers, after that fateful, wonderful Saturday night, after you had all quieted down, remember the line, "Now, you have no more excuse not to love." So go now and truly spend the rest of your days with the Lord.
Basta Ikaw Lord.
I'm a Dazer. Before I joined DWTL, I saw why some people say that members of this group are generally what Sir Roño said -- power-tripping-pseudo-sorority girls out for revenge because then, the girls who got the most challenges during Hell Week were the popular ones, or yung mga may kasalanan sa mga ibang Dazers na. The things I saw made me see na ang Simula na nga Sindakan, ay sindakan lalo na sa mga sikat o sa mga may atraso sa sikat. Kumbaga Hell Week/Sinadakan=it's payback time. Ang dating nga ng Days sa akin dati, para sa mga sikat, ni hindi ko nga naisip na para ang Days para kay Lord, kahit alam kong Days with the Lord sya. I joined DWTL not knowing what to expect. I knew I wanted to be in it because everybody was joining it. At least my friends are. I joined the bandwagon. I honestly did not know what was in store for me because of the secrecy that the organization keeps.
After my Days weekend I saw DWTL better. It wasn't so bad after all. The DWTL horror stories I've heard from others were not true. My Fourth Day is not at all smooth-sailing, but I'm okay. I'm living it the best way possible.
I haven't been staffing for the DWTL weekends for the longest time because of personal reasons. I would love to serve again, if only my personal issues are settled. I'd love to go listen to an HT talk, and go *kiss* the participants.
Sir Roño's line that said -- [Dazers] are still ordinary human beings. Indeed, they are. I have committed grave mistakes but I still believe that the Lord will forgive me. I must start seeing other people that way as well. I must start seeing Dazers as people, I must not expect a level of holiness from them, because I myself am not holy, not even close to being a religious person, yet I still consider myself a Dazer and a Catholic. I must start changing the way I see things, because I might be contributing to the problem that DWTL is going through by being selfish.
But the thing is, sometimes people who are looking at DWTL from the outside see that there are reasons to doubt the organization's goodness, kasi aminin natin na may mga tao nga na umaabuso sa pagiging isang Dazer. Diba? Eto yung realidad natin eh -- some people abuse their "Dazer-ness" but most Dazers don't. And really, it's the special cases that stick in people's minds, not the usual things.
